Built
on one of the most suggestive coasts of Italy, Mondragone boasts
a typical Tyrrhenian beach with gold and fine sand, besides a
sunny and mild climate.
Lively
and dynamic tourist resort, it is rich in history and traditions.
Its origins is linked to Sinuessa, a roman colony founded in 296
B.C. on a pre-existant installation of Greek origin, called
Sinope. Today of it, the ruins of an aqueduct and of a mausoleum,
known as the Tower of the Paladin along the route of the old Via
Appia remain and, among other findings, the statue of Venus
found in a rustic villa situated in the Caldana
area in 1911, besides the
8 km
oh the ancient Via Appia which
are in our municipal territory and of which the last excavations
have brought
to light another tract in the cemetery area. The delightful
holiday resort was a
very desired place to suffer attacks from Numidian invaders, but,
in spite of this, during the Punic wars, it had a very good
period as supporting place for Roman army and place of famous
